Meet Jens

Jens is an energetic, intimidating (to me at least), beautiful
arctic fox. He likes to steal empty beer bottles and pounce on things.

Don't be fooled though....
He might look cute, but he definitely bit me in the neck once.

...Okay, so maybe he is adorable.
But don't expect me to admit it again.

india ink is awesome. and so are chia pets.

So I have been redoing a collage for my design class for two 2 days now. Yesterday I worked on it from 2:00 pm until 10 pm. No joke. Today I've decided to take it a little more easy. I've only been working on it for a few hours, but ironically I have decided to tear the whole thing apart (for the 3rd time) and start from the beginning once again. But I did use my Exact-O knife to cut out the pieces and shapes I wanted to keep. So I suppose I'm a little bit ahead of the ballgame this time. Before I decided to trash the collage, I found something interesting. I have been using a lot of India Ink to outline and form drips on the bristol. I thought it might look cool to mix some watered down white acrylic, matte medium, and India Ink to add to the collage. Just take a gander at what the different ingredients created. I love it.

And a more far away look. My personal favorite image of the two.

Well, I hope everyone had a most wonderful Thanksgiving and ate plenty of food (NOT including animal products). Speaking of animals, since my mother tragically refuses to let me own a real kitten, this is what I got for Thanksgiving instead. Peace, Love, India Ink, & Chia Pets everyone!

pretty snazzy DIY's

Alright, so pretty much everyone that knows me is aware of my undeniable obsession with anything DIY. In fact, I get a ton of inspiration from my most favorite blog designsponge. So if you're into interior design, before & after projects, DIYs, cooking, gardening, and travel, among others of course, then you should most definitely check it out.
I've completed my fair share of the DIYs showcased on the blog, but there are definitely a few I've had my eye on for awhile. One of which happens to be the driftwood rack. Now I have made a few things using driftwood and I have to say I am a fan of how organic the finished product always seems to look. Not to mention, I am a huge fan of wood. Love working with it, love widdling it, love staining it...I just love it.
If wood isn't your thing, these super cute mason jar lights might just be your cup of tea. I don't know about you, but I constantly find myself admiring light fixtures and attempting to come up with some on my own. This DIY is simple, and I absolutely LOVE the finished mason jars. I've picked up a few mason jars from the local AC Moore and I know that Lowe's carries the light kit needed to complete the project. So hopefully I'll get this project under way sooner rather than later.
Those are just two of the many DIYs offered on designsponge, so if these interest you even in the slightest...I encourage you to peruse the site for all of its creative worth. I'll be sharing my progress with my very own DIYs throughout the next few posts:) Happy Thanksgiving everyone!

first real post?

Wow. I did not even recall ever having a blog or posting anything. But it seems as if I did? Interesting. I resent the name of my blog and the name of the URL. I am changing it ASAP. I have pretty much boycotted blogs since they became so hip and popular (how synonymous). However, I'm supposed to make a podcast or vodcast for my Writing & Technology Class…and I figure this would be a good means to do so. I was going to do a vodcast showing how to center and properly throw a vase, BUT Aaron (my ceramics teacher) decided to close the studio TODAY. No more throwing or ceramics or anything that I love so very much will take place after today until next semester:( Sad.

First and foremost, I like to think I'm somewhat crafty. I love anything I can make, recreate, build, rebuild, and pretty much anything that requires creativity. I love decorating and interior design, and majority of my art reflects this. The very first art class I took was the summer before my junior year of college. It was introduction to drawing. While I still suck at drawing, it has opened many other doors of opportunity for me. If it weren't for drawing I would have never had the chance to take sculpture or even CERAMICS. I've made a few things I'm proud of. So far they include: a badass hope chest, a corner clothing rack (my most proud piece of work), and some pottery. As you can see I haven't been doing this for very long. But, I'm really enjoying it so far.

My passion for art, and anything creative really, led me to want to teach people how to do something crafty via my podcast/vodcast. One thing I want to attempt is to make candles. I have an uncanny obsession with them and the effortless beauty their dripping wax creates. I have an assortment of wine, rum, and delirium nocturnum (<--YUM) bottles that I constantly stick candles in. The only downside about doing this is that it wastes wax. But once my creative wheels got turning, I discovered a solution for this by saving all of the leftover wax in order to create NEW recycled candles!

I'll be covering this in my upcoming podcast. Check back for the how to(:
