simple key art : how-to

I am a collector of many things. From scrap paper to bottle caps...and even KEYS. I've been collecting these for awhile now and I've been going back and forth on what to do with them. I was inspired by my latest how-to where I updated my mirror to a white frame, which now hangs on a white wall. White on white is great. So I decided to try out the same concept with these keys.

supplies
-keys, of course!
-super glue
-spray paint
-a shadow box

how-to
1) find a safe place to spray paint your keys, lay down plastic, and get to sprayin'
2) if the background of your shadow box is not your desired color or pattern then paint it or apply the pattern. my favorite way to apply patterns to small objects such as the shadow box is just to simply glue down stationary paper. it's easy and fun. but fortunately for me my shadow box was already completely white. (remember you can paint the frame too)
3) arrange the keys in whichever order you choose. since i'm doing white on white i wanted to make mine tres chic and symmetrical. so i went with four rows and columns equally aligned.
4)after you've decided on an arrangement begin gluing your keys down.
5) assemble the shadow box and hang your creation on a wall that needs a little creative love.

*the glare in my apartment was terrible when I attempted to photograph my work so I had to place it where the least amount of obstruction took place. i actually hung this lovely shadowbox perpendicular to the wall where i placed my white mirror. love the white on white:)

updated mirror: how to

This is the second time I have given an outdated mirror a little spray paint pizzazz. It's one of the quickest and easiest ways to update an old mirror. The first mirror I painted was actually a thrift shop find. I transformed the boring old gold frame into a vibrant, fun yellow. This time I used a mirror that I salvaged from my grandparents' house.

what you'll need
-a mirror of your choice
-spray paint (don't be afraid to experiment with vibrant colors)
-painters tape
-plastic bags

how to do it
1) wipe off any dust from the mirror
2) cover the actual mirror with plastic bags
3) use painters tape to outline the edges of the mirror and to secure the plastic bags so the actual mirror is protected from the paint
4) SPRAY PAINT!
5) wait about 30 minutes before handling (spray paint dries really fast so check up on it periodically)
6) apply an additional coat if necessary
7) let the paint dry
8) careful remove the painters tape and plastic bags
9) choose a wall to hang your new creation!

new work

A few days ago I finally got to take home all of my fired and glazed work from the semester. Seeing your stuff once it has been fired is exactly like Christmas morning. I love it. It makes me so happy to share my work with other people. Recently, I sold two of my pitchers. And I truly hope the recipients enjoy them as much as I enjoyed making them.

Both gals that purchased the pitchers bought them for Mother's Day and sent me photos of them clad in beautiful flowers.

So excited and ready to get back in the studio and began creating again!
